Vignelli Medal v2

The original Massimo and Lella Vignelli Distinguished Professor Medal was commissioned by Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Art and Design to be bestowed upon R. Roger Remington, RIT’s first Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design on the occasion of his retirement. I designed v2, the Lella and Massimo Vignelli Distinguished Professor Medal, after I became the second Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design and needed to wear it myself. Modifications were made to the typography and the construction of the medal, clarifying and simplifying the overall presentation. A major adjustment was the replacement of the fabric band with a silicone version which provides a sharper, more graphic overall look and feel. A new attachment mechanism on the back allows for the square format to be uninterrupted by the slot created for v1 ribbon’s slot. Photos by Elizabeth Lamark.
