Isamu Noguchi Tribute

Art Reflected: The Inspiration of 100 Years, was an invitational exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) featuring 41 artists who were invited to create works that reinterpreted objects from the permanent collection. The new works were placed on view side by side with their sources of inspiration. I selected “Calligraphies” by Isamu Noguchi, which was inspired by typographic design. My tissue box cover presents an iconic, utilitarian visual language for an object where form communicates functionality. This occurs in much the same way that a modern typeface seeks transparency in the delivery of messaging. Photos by Elizabeth Lamark.
